JVI
Ages 6-7
While Bode Miller, Daron Rahlves, Lindsey Kildow
and the rest of the US Ski Team were on top of the
world at the Vail/Beaver Creek World Cup events, the
same weekend we saw the BOC J6 program hit the snow.
Although Twister was the only trail available for
the better part of the weekend, a lot of on snow
mileage was achieved. While the snow conditions were
not the typical Bromley surface, having a
challenging surface gave the athletes (and coaches)
a real "jump in off the deep end" return to skiing,
which resulted in sore legs by Sunday's end.
Athletes on hand were Bear, Jacko, LyZee, and Mad
Max; coaches were Trey and Lauren. The enthusiasm
the J6's brought to the hill gives a lot to look
forward to as the season progresses and our ranks
fill up. Stay tuned to this link for updates, recaps
and schedules. Hopefully a picture or two as well.
See you soon.
JV Ages 8-10
Although the J5 program has a competition
component, the season's emphasis is on mileage in
all terrain and in all (yes, all) conditions while
stressing fundamentals and giving the athlete a
solid technical foundation of skills. This helps
create a versatile skier who can respond well to the
variables that create so many challenges in a race
course.
Each season offers an average of 9-10
opportunities to race in both the Southern Vermont
Council series which takes place at a number of
areas in SW Vermont and the Fred Pabst Series held
here at Bromley. Participation in as many training
days as possible as well as races is encouraged
because because ski racing can be a lot of FUN!
The emphasis will be on fun, with a lot of
freeskiing as well as a strong component of gate
training introduced to the program as the season and
skills levels evolve. Any athlete who wants to work
after the regular session will always be able to
find a coach to ski with. Parents are encouraged to
tag up with the head coach anytime with questions or
concerns.
JV Ages 11-12
JIV's will be introduced to a higher level of racing
techniques while maintaining an emphasis on directed
free skiing. This age group will also participate in
the Fred Pabst Series, but also have the option to
travel to the Betty Clayton and Southern Vermont
Junior Council Race Series. A schedule will be
provided for those racers that may be interested.
JIII Ages 13-14
The JIII level emphasizes ski racing techniques
in slalom, giant slalom and super G racing. JIII's
race 8-10 times a season and are eligible to qualify
for Vermont State Championships and Junior Olympics
(JO's). Click here for further
details.
JII and JI Ages 15-19
The JI and JII level
emphasizes continued improvement of ski racing
techniques in slalom, giant slalom and super G. This
level may race on both USSA and FIS levels. The race
schedule appears in the USSA Handbook.
